‘We chose Hotbath again for our new house’
Kelly and Jarno's gardener’s house is already over seventy years old, but their bathroom is still brand new. This was one of the first rooms to be finished after an extensive renovation job. The tap series Buddy in chrome is the finishing touch to their new home spa.

That was exciting!’ Instagram Follow the renovations of the gardener’s house via @diyzelen Particulars ‘When it came to turning our plans into reality, we had a lot of help from our neighbour behind us, a plumber/installer: Ruud Peeters Installations. It wasn't just our experience with Hotbath, but also his experience with placing Hotbath products that clinched the decision to choose Hotbath again.’
Kelly Thiesen and Jarno Dorssers’ free-standing gardener’s house is located among the cornfields near the Limburg town of Panningen, in the Netherlands. They've been living there for almost a year and are still busy renovating. Kelly: ‘We were looking for a doer-upper, something we could make our own. And this has certainly been the case: only the outer walls of the original house are still standing. The upper floor is pretty much finished. Our daughter June was born just three weeks after the bathroom was completed. We had a really tight deadline!’
Double the happiness with two wash-hand basin taps
The original bathroom was on the ground floor, with just a toilet on the upper floor.
Kelly and Jarno decided to sacrifice a bedroom for a new bathroom and added a toilet space to it. ‘We now have an extra spacious bathroom. We chose to have all of the taps concealed in the wall. Our last house had no space for concealed taps, and we had only one concealed wash-hand basin mixer tap. But it was a really good one: Buddy from Hotbath. It worked out so well that we decided to go for Hotbath again. For the new bathroom, we wanted a double wash-hand basin area with two taps.’
The couple chose the same tap as in their previous house, but in a different model and finish: concealed wash-hand basin mixer taps Buddy (B005J) in chrome with a curved outflow. The 3+3 system meant the taps could be installed in three ways. ‘We're both right-handed, so we placed the handles on the right. It’s practical and still looks really good. We also briefly considered the black taps but ultimately went with chrome. The chrome seemed easier in terms of maintenance.’
The luxury of a large shower head
In their last house, Kelly and Jarno had a walk-in shower with a rain shower from Hotbath. They wanted this luxury again. ‘We had to figure it out because the bathroom has a sloping roof, and we also wanted a free-standing bath and a toilet. We eventually managed to make a relatively deep walk-in shower and treated ourselves to a Buddy thermostatic shower set with the largest shower head. It's a little more luxurious and looks good in our slightly roomier walk-in shower. We didn't use the hand-held shower much in our previous house, but I wouldn't like to be without it now. We use it regularly to make a baby bath for June.’
Eye-catcher: a floor-mounted free-standing bath mixer tap
They also fitted in the free-standing bath, Kelly’s big wish, with a free-standing bath mixer tap beside the bathtub, mounted on the floor. ‘I love a free-standing bath, and June can play in it later. If you choose a free-standing bath, there should also be a free-standing tap. Otherwise, you don't do justice to the spacious effect, and that would be a shame. As someone who is always cold, I’m already looking forward to taking baths in the autumn and winter. Putting on some music, a magazine, and a glass of red wine. Hmm!’
